BE PREPARED FOR A SUCCESSFUL TUNING

While we at Bogue Services do our best to avoid putting unnecessary burden on our clients by making sure our crews come prepared with the proper tools and access ladders to make your instrument sound and perform its best, there are still a number of steps that you can take to get the most out of your tuning calls.

PRIOR TO THE TUNING CALL

Bogue Services keeps track of when to schedule tuning calls for our clients based on their input, the frequency they choose to have their instruments tuned, and seasonal temperature changes.  By Bogue Services maintaining control of scheduling, we can schedule clients in similar areas in groups, to keep costs down for everyone.  For scheduling purposes, clients should:

  • Notify Bogue Services when they know that they need their instruments tuned for a specific date or time.

  • Provide Bogue Services with up-to-date contact information for their staff, so as to reduce scheduling conflicts

  • Contact Bogue Services as soon as you know that a new scheduling conflict has arisen since your call had been scheduled

In preparation for the organ tuner, it is also important that you:

  • Make sure that the temperature in the room in which the organ and pipes are located is set the same as it would be when the organ is in use

  • Have all pipe access areas cleared of any items that may get in the way of the organ technician

  • Ensure that all access points (organ chambers, blower rooms, and organ consoles) are unlocked and accessible to the organ tuner

  • Remove personal items from the organ console, in case the technician needs to gain access to the inside of the console

In addition, it is always recommended that organists keep track of non-tuning issues that may arise with the instrument.  Whenever possible, organists should contact us, in advance, to notify us of such issues, so that if an issue can be easily addressed during a normal tuning call - with the necessary and correct parts available, of course - we can make the necessary arrangements to help avoid additional costs where possible.  It is best to send such notes either through our service request form on this web page, or by email at info@bogueservices.com

DURING THE TUNING CALL

During the tuning call, it is best if the following conditions are maintained:

  • The performance room is quiet, and no other programs or uses are scheduled in the space, as any kind of noise can hinder a tuner's ability to hear the proper beats when tuning an instrument

  • Maintain the temperature in the performance room as it would be during a typical performance

  • Make sure the tuner has a contact to reach if an issue were to arise during a service visit

AFTER THE TUNING CALL

Bogue Services stand behind our work.  In fact, if a customer has a significant tuning issue within 7 days of a tuning call, a return trip can be scheduled at no cost to the customer, as long as there is no evidence of outside tampering with the pipes and the temperature in the performance room is within 3 degrees - plus or minus - that of the temperature during the tuning call.  Therefore, it is important that the organist inspect the instrument as soon as possible following a service call.
